The MKSM was prepared alongside the East of England Plan. It identified Luton/Dunstable/Houghton Regis and Leighton Linslade as a Growth Area. The document identified housing and employment figures for the Growth Area up to 2031.
The Coalition Government announced their intention to abolish Regional Spatial Strategies in May 2010. The MKSM would be abolished with it. Following abolition, it will be the responsibility of local authorities to identify their own housing targets based on local need.
