7. Green Space Strategy

 

The Green Space Strategy, which is currently in draft form, is being prepared by Halcrow on behalf of the joint working councils. The purpose of the study is to provide a framework of appropriate planning policies and standards relating to green space along with a sustainable approach to green space management and maintenance. The draft strategy (February 2008) can be viewed here. 

 

8. Green Infrastructure Plan

 

The Green Infrastructure Plan was prepared by the Bedfordshire and Luton Green Infrastructure Consortium and was completed in February 2007. The aim of the plan is to define strategic green infrastructure, assess the quality of existing provision in the Luton and southern Bedfordshire area, and to identify any deficiencies that may exist. 9. LBC and SBDC Sport and Recreation and Playing Pitch Strategies

 

The Sport and Recreation and Playing Pitch Strategies were undertaken by Strategic Leisure Limited on behalf of Luton Borough and South Bedfordshire District Councils. The studies, all of which were completed in 2008, assess the quality of existing provision as well as identifying the types of facilities that are required to meet demand up to 2021 and beyond.

10. Level 1 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment

 

The Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) has been undertaken by Scott Wilson on behalf of the joint working councils and was completed in September 2008. The purpose of the study is to identify the extent of all food zones in the joint area and to outline how potential flood risk can be managed. The study can be viewed here. 11. Water Cycle Study

 

Phase 1

The Water Cycle Study Phase 1 was undertaken by Halcrow on behalf of the joint working councils and was completed in December 2008. The purpose of the study is to examine the potential impacts of future growth in Luton and southern Bedfordshire on all of the main aspects of the Water Cycle, namely, water resources, water quality and flood risk.

Phase 2

The Water Cycle Study Phase 2 was completed in June 2010. The document details the water cycle related actions and infrastructure needed to facilitate planned growth in the Luton and southern Bedfordshire.

12. Site Assessment Matrix

 

The Site Assessment Matrix has been undertaken by the joint working councils and was completed in April 2009. The document assesses each of the thirteen potential urban extension sites, as identified within the Core Strategy Issues and Options Paper, against a series of social, economic and environmental criteria.
